The Misunderstood American Demon
Rogatio is a demon, but first and foremost, he is an American. That means that he’s misunderstood.
In his debut video blog, Rogatio explores his feelings about the prejudice that people have against demons.
He’s dark, Rogatio explains, but that doesn’t mean that he’s dark, does it? His conflicted relationship with his own darkness reminds me of Malcom X’s meditations on the hateful bias in the English language against darkness and toward the light.
Perhaps this framework is part of what’s being explored in the Demonic Bible.
Christian mythology tells us that angels are creatures of the sky, and the light, while demons have been forced underground by the sky god. Does that make demons wicked, or does it make them avatars of the marginalized by arrogant, self-appointed masters of the world?
These days, under the fascism of Donald Trump, more people are coming to identify with the underground rather than the ubermensch.
